ANNUAL BILATERAL COOPERATION MEETING BETWEEN NORWAY AND BHUTAN ON NORAD-IV PROJECT AND ENERGY+ COOPERATION
 

The Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of Kingdom of Norway held the final Annual Bhutan-Norway Bilateral Meeting on April 25, 2017 in Thimphu. The Norwegian delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Nils Ragnar Kamsvag, Ambassador to Bhutan, Government of Kingdom of Norway and Bhutanese delegation was led by Dasho Yeshi Wangdi, Secretary for the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan.

The meeting largely discussed the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation’s (NORAD) IV project of the Department of Hydropower and Power System - Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) institutional cooperation and reflected on the development cooperation over the past two decades between the two countries. Collaboration and support in the energy and geology sector have largely been the cornerstone of bilateral relations between the two countries.

For the Ministry of Economic Affairs, NORAD has been an important development partner for the development of institutional and human resource capacity in the energy and geology sector.
NORAD’s assistance in the energy sector largely were access to energy, development of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, restructuring and institutional strengthening and energy resource assessments.
In the geology sector, Norway has supported the Department of Geology and Mines through the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). The support was mainly towards building geotechnical and geophysical investigation capacity of the Department.

 
Marking the successful completion of 25 years of energy cooperation between the two countries, a summary report was also launched in the evening of April 25.
