This is for the general information of all concerned that the Intellectual Property Division of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has established a Registry for Patents in order to provide inventors with an effective means to protect and promote their inventions as mandated by the Industrial Property Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2001. All interested can apply for patent registration from 1 March 2012. The Industrial Property Act 2001, Industrial Property Rules 2001, Office Practice and Procedure Manual for Patent Registration System 2012, Forms and Schedule of Fees pertaining to the Patent Registration System can be downloaded from our website (www.ipbhutan.gov.bt). Tengye Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk will be leading a Bhutanese delegation to attend the Sixth Meeting of the South Asia Free Trade Area (SAFTA) Ministerial Council scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan on 16 February 2012. The delegation will comprise of officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. Sixth Meeting of the SAFTA Ministerial Council will be preceded by the Seventh Meeting of the SAFTA Committee of Experts on 14-15 February 2012 and the Ninth Meeting of the Expert Group on SAARC Agreement on Trade in Services (SATIS). The meeting will review the progress of the implementation of SAFTA and the negotiation on Schedules of Commitment under SATIS. SAFTA Ministerial Council is the highest decision-making body of SAFTA and is responsible for the administration and implementation of the Agreement. SAFTA Committee of Experts has the mandate to monitor, review and facilitate implementation of the various provisions of the Agreement and to undertake any task assigned to it by the SAFTA Ministerial Council. The SAFTA process has completed six years of implementation.
