The Regional Trade and Industry Office Samdrup Jongkhar was established in early 1970s and is entrusted with the responsibility to foster and facilitate sustainable growth of Trade and industrial activities in the region increasing the sector’s contribution to the national economy. Regional Office Samdrup Jongkhar covers two eastern Dzongkhags namely Pemagatshel and Samdrup Jongkhar.
The Regional Office, Samdrup Jongkhar is thriving to fulfill the vision of Ministry of Economic Affairs to function as the arm of MoEA focusing on the development and promotion of Trade and Industrial activities in the two Dzongkhag of Pemagatshel and Samdrup Jongkhar. Samdrup Jongkhar, rightly known as the gateway to eastern Bhutan is regarded as the future Industrial Hub of Eastern Bhutan.
Samdrup Jongkhar shares border with the Indian State of Assam and also have direct connectivity to Bangladesh via Dhawki (Shillong)-Tamabil (Bangladesh).
To promote private sector development and enhance socio-economic activity in the region and in order to promote balanced regional development and enhance rural economy, Industrial Estate will be developed and established at Motanga also known as Phuntshorabtenling in Samdrup Jongkhar. The development and management of industrial estate would be pursued through PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model.
